Denim Day and I Scream (Ice Cream) Against Rape Social
Denim Day is held each April in remembrance of an Italian court case in 1992. A 45-year-old driving instructor was accused of rape following a driving lesson with an 18-year-old girl. Though the rapist was at first convicted, the Italian Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1998 citing the fact that the victim had worn tight jeans and must have needed to help the attacker remove them, making it consensual. Women in the Italian Parliament protested the following day by wearing jeans. I Scream (Ice Cream) Against Rape Social will immediately follow inside. Don’t forget to wear jeans!
