Bags and Bubbles: A Heartfelt Gathering for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In October, our community came together for a meaningful event in support of survivors of domestic violence. Bags and Bubbles: Raising Awareness and Support for Pillars Community Health, hosted in partnership with The Hope Chest, offered a special moment to stand together in solidarity.

Beyond the bubbly beverages and brunchy bites, this gathering was about making a difference for those seeking refuge at Constance Morris House, our Domestic Violence Shelter.

At the heart of the event was the simple yet powerful act of filling a bag with essentials for survivors who often arrive at our shelter with little more than the clothes on their backs. Thanks to the generosity of our attendees, new handbags, totes, and backpacks were filled with daily necessities and comforting items. Each filled bag offered practical support and a message of compassion and understanding, showing survivors they are valued and never alone. Your kindness truly makes a difference.

The event also featured an insightful panel discussion led by The Hinsdalean editor Pam Lannom, with Roz Romero, Liliana De Loera, and Mechell Bridges from Pillars Community Health. Together, they shared stories of resilience and insights into the fight against gender-based violence, highlighting the work Pillars Community Health has championed for 45 years. Their discussion was a powerful reminder of the impact of community awareness and action for survivors of all genders.

This year marks 45 years of providing a voice, a place of refuge, and a path to healing for survivors of domestic violence. The success of this event—and the enduring impact of our work—is a testament to the strength of our community. Our partnership with The Hope Chest, along with your unwavering support, reminds us of what we can accomplish together.

Thank you to everyone who filled a bag, attended the event, or supported from afar. Your contributions have created a warm, welcoming space for survivors to rebuild their lives. Together, we’re spreading hope and helping survivors take those brave first steps forward.
