What is PAIP (Partner Abuse Intervention Program / Domestic Violence Counseling)?
The Partner Abuse Intervention Program (PAIP) at Pillars Community Health is a court‑approved, psychoeducational program for individuals who have caused harm in intimate partner relationships. Based at our Carl Bartolucci Center in Berwyn, Illinois, PAIP serves individuals throughout Chicago’s western suburbs.
PAIP is sometimes referred to by the courts as Domestic Violence Counseling—judges may list either PAIP or Domestic Violence Counseling when issuing a mandate.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that people can change, but only when they take full responsibility for their actions and commit to doing the work. PAIP addresses patterns of power and control that define abusive behavior and replaces those behaviors with empathy, respect, and equity.
Goals of the Partner Abuse Intervention Program
PAIP is designed to support behavior change that leads to safer, healthier relationships. The goals are to:
-
Replace controlling or violent conflict styles with healthy, nonviolent alternatives
-
Embrace honesty, accountability, and mutual respect in relationships
-
Learn stress management techniques and develop healthy coping strategies
-
Increase safety for victims and survivors by addressing the root causes of abusive behavior
Who Should Enroll in PAIP (Domestic Violence Counseling)?
PAIP serves individuals who have been:
- Court‑ordered to attend a Partner Abuse Intervention Program
- Mandated by DCFS, probation, or parole
- Self‑referred and ready to take responsibility for their behavior
Participants must be age 18 or older.
PAIP is offered in both English‑ and Spanish‑language group sessions.
