Why Health Screenings Are Essential
Health screenings play a vital role in detecting potential health risks early, allowing for timely treatment and better outcomes. Our health screenings are designed to catch potential issues early, giving you and your family peace of mind. Here’s what we offer at PCH:
- Annual exams tailored to individuals based on their anatomy and health needs, including pelvic exams, testicular exams, prostate screenings, blood pressure checks, cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, and immunization updates.
- Oral cancer screenings through our dental offices, with referrals to medical providers for further assessment and treatment if needed.
- Colorectal cancer screenings for adults, particularly those aged 45 and older or with a family history of colorectal cancer. Early detection can identify precancerous polyps or cancer at a treatable stage. Our providers can guide you through the process, including referrals for colonoscopies if necessary.
- Breast cancer screenings, including breast exams, which help detect breast cancer earlier on when it is more easily treatable.
- Cervical cancer screenings, including pap smears, begin at age 21, with normal pap smear results, meaning you will wait three years for your next test. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Pap smears can help prevent cervical cancer or help people find it early.”
Behavioral Health Screenings
Mental health is just as important as physical health. PCH offers annual screenings for depression, anxiety, and peri- and post-partum depression. These screenings are crucial for identifying and addressing mental health concerns early, helping prevent more severe issues such as substance use, social withdrawal, or chronic stress, all of which can significantly impact quality of life.
Comprehensive Screenings for All Ages
In addition to the services mentioned above, PCH provides comprehensive screenings for individuals of all ages, including:
- Children: Pediatric developmental screenings, school and sports physicals, and annual well-child exams.
- Adults: Annual physical exams, women’s basic infertility screenings, and substance abuse and domestic violence screenings.
