Why Become a Patient Board Member?
Pillars Community Health is a nonprofit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), which means we are guided by the community, clients, and patients we serve. Over 51% of our volunteer Board members are patients or parents/guardians of patients at one of our FQHC locations. As a Board member, you will have a direct role in ensuring our health centers meet the needs of the community, particularly underserved and low-income individuals.
Responsibilities of a Board Member:
- Participate actively in monthly Board meetings (virtual attendance is available; in-person attendance required for at least 3 meetings per year).
- Serve on at least one Board committee.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with state, federal, and nonprofit regulations.
- Support and promote Pillars Community Health’s mission through outreach, fundraising, and advocacy.
- Maintain confidentiality, respect, and uphold ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Be a current patient or parent/guardian of a patient.
- Commit to the mission and vision of Pillars Community Health.
- Attend meetings regularly and participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
What Does the Board Do?
- Defines our mission: Ensuring the organization meets its goals.
- Oversees policies: Approving and updating guidelines that impact finances, services, and personnel.
- Safeguards assets: Maintaining financial oversight and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Selects and evaluates the CEO: Working closely with staff leadership.
- Evaluates performance: Ensuring the organization is meeting its goals and adjusting strategies as needed.
- Plans for the future: Collaborating on strategic planning for the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization.
