Info
You care about the young people in your life—and sometimes it’s hard to know what to say or do when they’re struggling. Youth Mental Health First Aid gives you practical tools to recognize warning signs, start supportive conversations, and connect teens to help when it matters most.
This free, in-person training is for parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and anyone who interacts with youth ages 12–18. You don’t need clinical experience—just a willingness to learn how to show up in meaningful, informed ways for the teens you care about.
During the class, you’ll learn how to spot early signs of anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use challenges. You’ll practice how to respond with compassion, reduce stigma, and guide young people toward professional support when needed. The training includes 2 hours of online pre-work, followed by a live, interactive session.
Lunch is provided, and continuing education units (CEUs and CPDUs) are available for professional development. This training is brought to you by the Mental Health Commission of Lyons Township, NAMI Metro Suburban, and Pillars Community Health.
