Pillars Community Health Board Appoints Lanita Higgs-Jackson as President and CEO

Pillars Community Health’s Board of Directors has voted to appoint Lanita Higgs-Jackson as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Lanita brings nearly two decades of experience in finance and more than a decade of strategic leadership to this role. She has been part of Pillars Community Health for more than seven years, most recently serving as Chief Financial Officer and Interim President and CEO. In these roles, she has helped guide the organization’s financial strength, operational growth, and long-term strategy.

Since joining Pillars Community Health in 2018, Lanita has advanced through several leadership positions, overseeing accounting and fiscal operations, as well as facilities and information technology. Her leadership has strengthened internal systems and supported the organization’s ability to expand access to whole-person care.

Prior to joining Pillars Community Health, Lanita held leadership roles in nonprofit finance, including at Arabella Advisors, where she led financial planning and reporting initiatives, and at both the University of Chicago and Mercer University, where she built a strong foundation in grants management and financial operations.

Known for her collaborative and community-driven approach, Lanita has developed strong relationships with staff, leadership, and partners across the region. She is deeply committed to building partnerships that improve access to care and strengthen the communities Pillars Community Health serves.

“Lanita is a trusted and accomplished leader who brings a deep understanding of our mission and our strategic direction,” said Alexandra Normington, Pillars Community Health Board Chair. “Her leadership reflects the values of Pillars Community Health and our commitment to the individuals we serve.”

While Lanita has been a part of Pillars Community Health’s leadership for years, this appointment marks an important moment of transition. With the support of the Board and staff, she will continue to build on the organization’s strong foundation while guiding its future growth and impact.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue the work we have built together,” said Lanita Higgs-Jackson. “Pillars Community Health is deeply rooted in its communities, and I am committed to strengthening our partnerships and expanding access to care for those we serve.”

Lanita holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Alabama and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana State University–Shreveport.
