This past Saturday, Pillars Community Health’s Buddy’s Place program participated in the Western Springs Park District’s Halloween Bash. Guests were invited to decorate a picture frame that could be used to place a picture of someone special. For families that have been impacted by a death loss, they could use this frame to remember their person and possibly include it as part of an Ofrenda if they so choose. Buddy’s Place recognizes the importance of staying connected to those who have died, and Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a time for the celebration of those lives.

November 1st is also the beginning of  Children’s Grief Awareness Month. This November, the focus of our campaign encourages everyone to Listen on Repeat to children who are grieving. Through active and sustained listening, we create space for children to share their experiences and process the death of someone significant to them. We invite you to be a part of the messaging by sharing our campaigns on social media and attending events throughout the month.

Since 2000, our Buddy’s Place childhood bereavement program has offered family-based support groups to children and teens ages 4-18 and their families who are grieving the death of someone significant in their lives. We are committed to providing a safe, accepting, and supportive environment where each family can come and express their grief and connect with others in a group setting. There is no charge to attend the programs offered by Buddy’s Place.
