Human trafficking victims may visit emergency rooms for medical care for treatment due to domestic and sexual violence, and, with appropriate training, Sexual Assault Response Teams and their individual members have the opportunity to identify a victim and help. Christy Birkey, MSN, RN, Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner at Rush Oak Park Hospital’s Emergency Room, will share information on her initiatives and describe the critical role of community-based medical/legal advocates in working with victims of human trafficking.
