Programa de Prevención y Educación sobre la Violencia Doméstica y Sexual.
The Locker Room Project: The Locker Room Project seeks to empower and educate young men to prevent domestic violence before it starts. This project instills integrity, good character, and respect for others through outreach, education, and awareness. The Locker Room Project also helps to cultivate self-esteem, emotional maturity, and coping skills, which will help build healthy interpersonal relationships in the future.
Pillars Community Health regularly provides domestic violence outreach. Presentations include “Healthy Teen Relationships;” “In Her Shoes,” an interactive simulation in which participants can experience barriers a survivor may encounter in the journey to leave an abusive relationship; and “REEPS (Resilience, Empowerment, Education, Prevention, Safety)” for teens or adults. “REEPS” involves a staff member and a domestic violence survivor discussing the issue; this presentation is regularly provided to hospitals, schools, and churches, among other venues.
For cosmetology professionals, Pillars Community Health is available to provide training (with CEs) to help them recognize the signs of abuse and to provide support, resources, and assistance to clients whoa re survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We are a licensed IDFPR CE sponsor (License No. 290.000032).
Pillars Community Health is also available to present on topics such as "Buleo," “Sexual Health,” “Stop Porn Culture,” “Stalking Awareness,” “Sexual Assault Awareness,” and “Child Abuse Awareness.”
As part of our outreach services, our Sexual Assault team partners with local schools to provide prevention education for students and teachers. Prevention education teaches students about body safety and how to ask for help, and gives teachers and school administrators the resources to help students who need it.
Staff are available throughout the year to attend resource fairs or provide prevention education presentations.
