Pillars Community Health Announces Resources to Combat Overdose and Promote Safety

La Grange, IL – Pillars Community Health is proud to announce expanded resources to address overdose prevention and community safety. With overdose rates and firearm-related injuries impacting communities nationwide, we are committed to delivering life-saving resources and interventions and fostering a culture of safety and well-being.

Overdose Prevention: Narcan Saves Lives
Opioids are involved in over 80% of drug overdose deaths, emphasizing the urgent need for interventions like Narcan (naloxone). This life-saving medication binds to opioid receptors to restore normal breathing in the event of an overdose. Common opioids include heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine.

Overdose prevention programs nationwide report an 89% success rate in naloxone administration. Training on Narcan use is simple and paired with education on follow-up medical care. Illinois’ Good Samaritan laws protect those who call 911 during an overdose from criminal prosecution and civil liability, ensuring people feel safe seeking help.

Gun Lock Distribution: Promoting Safety at Home
In addition to overdose prevention, Pillars Community Health is distributing free gun locks to encourage safe firearm storage. Proper firearm storage can reduce the risk of accidental injuries, deaths by suicide, and other firearm-related harm. By making gun locks widely available, we aim to empower families to take proactive steps toward home safety.
