Facilities Technician

SUMMARY

The Facilities Technician is responsible for providing “handyperson” duties in the Facilities Department, completing and closing work orders using the electronic HIPPO Work Order Management System and providing general departmental services to all PCH sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plumbing

  • Orders and installs replacement parts for plumbing fixtures.
  • Rods plumbing fixtures using special rodder.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on plumbing fixtures.
  • Removes, replaces, repairs existing plumbing equipment (i.e. toilets, sump pumps)

HVAC

  • Inspects and troubleshoots problems with existing HVAC units.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on HVAC units.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.

Electrical

  • Inspects and troubleshoots problems with existing electrical equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on electrical equipment.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts.

General Facilities:

  • Prepares reports documenting work performed.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
  • Obtains services of outside contractors when repairs require specialized training.
  • Performs general cleaning tasks in the facility.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Operates large vehicles on occasion (14ft box truck)

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or Equivalent combination of education and experience.  At least 5 years of experience as a handyperson in facilities maintenance.  Must have previous experience with hardware, hand tools and electric tools.  Experience with electrical systems, HVAC and plumbing required.

OTHER

Must maintain a safe driving record and have current valid Illinois Driver’s License and good driving record.

Demonstrated Competencies

  • Ability and willingness to learn carpentry.
  • Basic math skills
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task. Has keen attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented.
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to write reports on maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate computer skills – Microsoft applications
  • Must be able to work flexible hours (Including weekends on occasion)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push/lift 75 pounds.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Ability to ascend and descend 30-foot ladders
  • Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Working around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paint
  • Ability to maneuver within small workspaces, such as crawl spaces and attics
