Early Childhood Master Coach


The Early Childhood Master Coach position is under the direct supervision of the Child Development Manager. The Early Childhood Master Coach must be able to provide teaching staff working with children ages zero to five, support in the delivery of high quality education services in the Early Head Start/ Head Start Programs, and to comply with State Licensing and Federal Performance Standards.   The incumbent must also be able to provide ongoing instruction and support to staff in the development of skills in areas of Curriculum, GOLD, the CLASS Domains and the Head Start Framework.



  1. Monitors compliance with Early Head Start/Head Start Child Development performance standards, including Education, Disabilities and Mental Health.
  2. Conducts CLASS observations twice per year for each classroom.
  3. Monitors School Readiness activities, TS GOLD, CLASS Observations, educations records, disabilities and home based functions and acquisition of instructional materials.
  4. Works collaboratively with the Child Development Manager to ensure the ongoing provision and compliance with of high quality early childhood education.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of Early Head Start/ Head Start site operations, philosophy and goals.
  6. Ensures compliance with all licensing, health and funding source regulations i.e., The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Health and Human Services (HHS), The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  7. Consistent with licensing requirements, participates in a rotation of opening and closing of the CFDC as the designated director on site.
  8. Provides support and technical assistance to Home Visiting Staff in their roles of Education, Disabilities and Mental Health.
  9. Must be CLASS Reliable or become Reliable within 6 months of hire and have a full understanding of the CLASS Observation tool.
  10. Responsible for providing coaching/mentoring opportunities to support all learners in the classroom environment, which may include working one–on-one with students.
  11. Maintains understanding of the IEP and IFSP process. Monitors Disability tracking.
  12. Confers with grantee and delegate staff for supportive counsel, referral or reference source as needed to ensure compliance with all Head Start and Childcare standards.
  13. Attends Department training’s and meetings, as well as other meetings and training’s that may be required. Maintains consistent and open communication with the Head Start Director.
  14. Responds to agency and stakeholder needs by performing assigned tasks, which do not fall within the above descriptions. If such tasks are not a temporary nature, they should be added to the position’s designated responsibilities.
  15. Conducts trainings on curriculum, screenings, and assessments.
  16. Oversees the management of the educational resource room and provides classrooms with materials to support curriculum studies.
  17. Ensures the compliance to any other duties that may be assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education. A minimum of three years experience in Early Head Start/Head Start program implementation. Demonstrated knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start performance standards. Demonstrated knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start site operation, philosophy and goals.

Per Licensing, in order to meet the requirements of Section 407.100, the designated director on site must have: Sixty semester or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6.  For additional options, please consult Human Resources.


Valid IL Driver’s license and personal vehicle needed to travel to all Pillars Community Health sites and delegate agency.
