Bilingual Patient Benefits & Enrollment Specialist

Summary:

Under general supervision of the VP of Health Center Operations performs a range of support assignments for the patients. Assists with determining eligibility for government, insurance and Community Healthcare Network benefits and services, assists patients with documentation for sliding scale discounts in accordance with agency eligibility requirements. Assists with registration of clients for other health assistance programs and for maintenance of patient registration database and master patient list.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Health Center:

• Addresses inquiries from patients and other persons

• Schedules appointment for clients to register for clinical services and/or for other assistance programs
• Conducts intake appointments to determine eligibility for benefit programs in accordance with agency eligibility criteria and to obtain appropriate registration documents
• Obtains and verifies information on required forms to ensure eligibility requirements
• Inputs all patient registration data into database

Patient Benefits & Enrollment Specialist

• Becomes sufficiently knowledgeable in local health and community resources to provide direction to members, providers, etc. who require services outside program guidelines
• Assists in the patient discharge process by sending notices to patients and clinics
• Assembles and mails member enrollment materials and re-enrollment notifications
• Assists in the production of reports regarding enrollment demographics, physician assignment, and other ad-hoc requests
• Provides accurate Spanish/English interpretation to applicants and patients needing such assistance and/or translation of written materials from English to Spanish as needed
• Maintains patient information and confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and PCH policies

Outreach:
• As assigned, works with other clinical/outreach staff to accomplish agency’s patient outreach goals
• As directed, contact patients for outreach and follow-up to assure patient compliance with treatment plans
• As directed, contact and visit local organizations to market service of PCH
• Collect and report on patient satisfaction and patient retention data
• Prepares letters, labels and other information for mailings
• Assists with special tasks as needed and as requested by supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED.  Previous experience working with benefit eligibility in a medical office preferred.  Excellent verbal and telephone communication skills.  Demonstrated proficiency in computer and computer database skills.  Meets agency health & immunization requirements

LANGUAGE

Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills and ability to interpret with ease and accurately translate written material from English to Spanish

Mobility: Some local travel between sites, to meetings and/or trainings required – normal accessibility and mobility through the sites navigating stairs, inclines, ramps, carpeted, smooth and rough surfaces.
