If there is one thing that should know about grief, it\u2019s this: <strong>grief looks different for everyone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h1>How Grief Can Affect You<\/h1>\n<p>Grief impacts people in many ways\u2014emotionally, physically, and socially. \u00a0According to Harvard Health Publishing, some common effects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wide ranges of emotions:<\/strong> sadness, anger, frustration, shock, regret, hopelessness, anxiety, stress, panic, numbness, confusion, guilt, depression.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Changes in sleep:<\/strong> trouble falling or staying asleep\u2014or sleeping much more than usual.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Changes in appetite:<\/strong> eating far less or far more than you normally would.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Physical pain:<\/strong> stomach aches, joint pain, headaches, or nausea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Increased health risks:<\/strong> higher blood pressure, heart problems, attack, a weakened immune system, or other health conditions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social withdrawal-<\/strong> spending less time with friends, or family, or spending less time doing activities you once enjoyed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>What You Can Do<\/h1>\n<p>Grief can feel overwhelming and isolating, but there are steps you can take to find comfort and healing. The American Psychological Association recommends:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Talk about your feelings.<\/strong> Share what you\u2019re going through. Reach out to friends, family, support groups, crisis hotlines, or mental health professionals such as therapists, psychiatrists, or grief counselors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take care of your health.<\/strong> Get plenty of rest, stay active, keep up with regular doctor\u2019s visits, maintain a balanced diet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Build coping skills.<\/strong> Explore activities that bring you peace\u2014painting, meditation, listening to music, journaling, spending time in nature, or just talking to others. Everyone\u2019s coping style is different, so find what works for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Grief Support at Pillars Community Health<\/h1>\n<p>At Buddy\u2019s Place, a program of Pillars Community Health children and teens age 4-18 and their caregivers learn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grief is a normal response to loss.<\/li>\n<li>They are not alone in what they\u2019re feeling.<\/li>\n<li>How to talk about their emotions and experiences.<\/li>\n<li>How to ask for help.<\/li>\n<li>How to continue a meaningful connection with the person who died.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Buddy\u2019s Place participants can also be referred to therapists at Pillars Community Health for additional support.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond Buddy\u2019s Place, we offer a range of behavioral health services to support individuals and families through grief. Our Access and Referral Team is here to help you take the first step\u2014answering questions, explaining options, and connecting you to the right resources based on your needs. These services include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Behavioral health screenings and treatment<\/li>\n<li>Outpatient mental health services<\/li>\n<li>Psychiatry<\/li>\n<li>A 24\/7 crisis
