Of those covered, 44% are children, illustrating how vital Medicaid is for supporting family health and development.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"826\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"849\"><strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"849\">What Is Medicaid?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"1344\">Understanding Medicaid\u2019s benefits and eligibility can help you make informed decisions about your health care. Medicaid is a government-funded health insurance program that covers the cost of medical care for people who qualify. It is available only to individuals and families with low income who meet specific eligibility criteria. Medicaid pays health care providers directly. Depending on the service, you may still be responsible for a small copay if Medicaid doesn\u2019t cover the full cost.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1349\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1395\"><strong data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1395\">How Do I Know If I Qualify for Medicaid?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1397\" data-end=\"1608\">To qualify for Medicaid, you must meet income requirements based on the federal poverty level. Because Medicaid is administered by each state, eligibility rules in Illinois may differ from those in other states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1639\">In Illinois, Medicaid covers:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1659\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1642\" data-end=\"1659\">Preventive care<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1660\" data-end=\"1676\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1676\">Primary care<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1712\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1712\">Hospital and emergency services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1758\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1758\">Mental health and substance use treatment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1787\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1787\">Prescription medications<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1788\" data-end=\"1806\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1806\">Maternity care<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1807\" data-end=\"1834\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1809\" data-end=\"1834\">Long-term care services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1837\" data-end=\"1886\">Dental and vision care (for eligible individuals)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"2059\">As of October 2024, more than 3 million individuals in Illinois are enrolled in Medicaid and the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), according to Medicaid.gov.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2061\" data-end=\"2547\">Most Illinois residents qualify for Medicaid based on Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI). Adults ages 19\u201364 may be eligible if their income is up to 138% of the federal poverty level under Illinois\u2019 expanded Medicaid program. This ACA expansion currently covers 770,000 Illinoisans and is funded 90% by the federal government. Unfortunately, this group\u2014single adults without children\u2014is the population most at risk of losing coverage due to proposed federal cuts.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2552\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2554\" data-end=\"2592\"><strong data-start=\"2554\" data-end=\"2592\">Who Else Can Qualify for Medicaid?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2594\" data-end=\"2686\">In addition to low-income adults, other groups may qualify for Medicaid coverage, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2687\" data-end=\"2947\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2687\" data-end=\"2741\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2741\">Pregnant individuals, regardless of marital status<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2742\" data-end=\"2787\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2787\">Parents or guardians of children under 18<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2788\" data-end=\"2855\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"2855\">Seniors (65+), people with disabilities, or those who are blind<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2856\" data-end=\"2947\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2858\" data-end=\"2947\">Individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or certain other public benefits<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2949\" data-end=\"2952\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2954\" data-end=\"2996\"><strong data-start=\"2954\" data-end=\"2996\">How Can Pillars Community Health Help?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2998\" data-end=\"3237\">Pillars Community Health (PCH) offers several affordable options for patients to receive care.
