{"id":17770,"date":"2021-05-17T15:07:14","date_gmt":"2021-05-17T20:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pillarscommunityhealth.org\/?p=17770"},"modified":"2021-05-20T12:15:42","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T17:15:42","slug":"resources-for-grieving-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pillarscommunityhealth.org\/es\/resources-for-grieving-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources for Grieving Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Michelle Halm, Director of Buddy&#8217;s Place<\/em><\/p>\n<p>An estimated 1 out of 14 children in the United States will experience the death of a parent or sibling before they reach the age of 18. \u00a0The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the number of child grievers; an estimated <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aappublications.org\/news\/2021\/04\/05\/children-losing-parents-covid-040521\">40,000 children had lost a parent to COVID-19 as of April 2021.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children do not \u201cforget\u201d or \u201cget over\u201d the death of someone important. Grief is a lifelong process of learning to cope with feelings and find healing. As a parent or a caregiver, it\u2019s important to remember that grief cannot be \u201cresolved\u201d or \u201cfixed\u201d. Providing your family with support is an integral part of learning to work through their feelings and finding acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>There are many great resources that can help if you or someone you love is working through grief. The program offers families a place to express their feelings, connect with others, and find healing in a supportive group setting. Children and teens participate in age-appropriate activities, while parents and caregivers learn how to help their families work through grief.<\/p>\n<p>Family Resources offered through Buddy\u2019s Place:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monthly Gatherings are held on the second Monday of each month for participating families. These are currently being held in-person at local parks in Western Springs to maintain social distancing.<\/li>\n<li>8 week Sessions are held every spring and fall.
