Controller

SUMMARY

The Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a team of staff members, including functional oversight over cash flow, budgets, financial close, reporting to management. The Controller will maintain appropriate systems and procedures to support effective program implementation and conduct effective and efficient audits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Manages monthly accounting close process ensuring timeliness, accuracy and thoroughness. Implements segregation of duties and internal control.

· Coordinates the annual budget development process, both operating and capital, working closely with program leadership and officers. Develops and communicates financial forecasts.

· Manages preparation of the internal financial statements, prepares timely and relevant financial analysis, and provides financial reporting support for the CFO.

· Reviews grant and contract documents for financial reporting guidelines and budget compliance.

· Analyzes grant and contract related transactions recorded in the MIP accounting system.

· Reviews, edits and transmits grant & contract related financial and expenditure transactions, and bills other government agencies/sponsors/grantors accordingly.

· Assists with the preparation of Annual Financial Report.

· Assists in formulating procedures to assure compliance with grant and contract related accounting and financial reporting.

· Audits, reconciles and processes transactions related to receipt and expenditures of grant and contract funds.

· Assists program staff and grantees with financial, budgetary, and accounting questions related to grants and contracts.

· Reviews expenditures to ensure compliance with Pillars Community Health policies as well as Federal and State rules and regulations.

· Prepares journal entries to accurately report receipt and expenditure of grant and contract revenue.

· Maintains and utilizes knowledge of Federal Cost Accounting and Financial Reporting Standards as promulgated in OMB Circulars and Agency Guidelines as well as State of Illinois reporting requirements (GATA).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and hiring staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance, providing coaching and development, addressing concerns and resolving problems, and managing employee timecards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. CPA preferred.

· 7-10 years related professional experience required. Non-profit, health care or FQHC setting is preferable.

· Excellent MS Office skills and well versed in MIP accounting software

· Knowledge of computers with the ability to understand accounting systems, PC spreadsheets, and other financial data systems.

· Ability and knowledge to assist program and other leadership in interpreting financial results of the Agency.

· Ability to identify and implement process improvements.

· Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to Pillars Community Health’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance.

· Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills.

· Possess interpersonal skills that excel in cultural sensitivity and respect for differences.
